- And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness; and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast, full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls, holding in her hand a gold cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her sexual immorality...(Revelation 17:3-4)

In view of the increasingly troubled time we are in, I thought it worthwhile to present a Sukkot “after-party” encouragement to begin preparing for Passover. In fact, if you’re not already thinking about Passover, you’re behind!
It is traditional to read the Song of Songs during the Passover week. Its main theme is resurrection, but incredibly, the ancient sages’ commentaries link the Song to other prophecies. Their expectation of the ingathering of the exiles, the nature of Messiah, the times in which he will return, and the judgments are incredibly contemporary to what is happening to the fig tree Israel today and even headline news. This week and next, we will shine the spotlight on some of the expectation concerning the fig tree prophecy contained in
2:13 The fig tree has ripened its fruit,
And the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance.
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come along!

The recurring number in the text, whether through symbol or literal number, is 3. The tree represents the number three and resurrection as well as the third spirit of Adonai, etzah, or counsel in English. The seeds and trees bearing fruit were created on the Third Day of Creation. A tree in Hebrew is etz. It's no coincidence that the Spirit of Counsel and trees share the same root. Both symbolize resurrection. The Spirit of Counsel is not so much about GIVING advice, but to "meekly RECEIVE the implanted Word of God." (Ja 1:21) If never, received, then Counsel will not sprout, a real roadblock to resurrection.

Abraham had to go to the Land of Promise in order to seek out the knowledge of righteousness. Lekh lekha was his first recorded commandment. Avram did righteousness in Ur and Charan, but it was to Shalem that he needed to go; and again, to Mount Moriah with Isaac, a “teaching” mountain of Shalem. After separating from Lot, Avram is told to “Arise.” Kum.
Avram had to walk the Land for the sake of his children. Walking (in Hebrew, holekh) is what the Chidekkel (Tigris) River did in the Garden of Eden. Avram was promised that his offspring would re-populate the Garden of Eden. This was the first commandment, to be fruitful and MULTIPLY. Through the resurrection of the King of Righteousness, Yeshua, Avram's offspring would do more than just reproduce, they would do so in great numbers.

- Adonai Himself will cross over before the Israelites.
- Adonai Himself will destroy the occupiers of the Land of Israel so that the tribes may receive their portions.
Israel is to remain vigilant, expectant through the Passover night and the evening before the Day of Trumpets. Resurrection comes with the dawn. The menorah had to be so filled with oil that it would burn until dawn, yet if the fire on the altar went out, then all the oil in the world could not burn through the night as necessary. As the Feast of Trumpets approaches, it is important to do more than check the oil level in our lamps. We need to listen, measure our actions against the Word, and if necessary, repent. There's nothing like a good repentance sacrifice to make the altar flame high, and with that fire, we can re-light our lamps to burn through the darkness of night. Evening and morning. One day. Today.

Does it seem like the word "today" is used a lot in our Torah portion? The Hebrew for "today" is HaYom. The emphasis on the opening passage of Nitzavim is “today.” The principle of “today” is that it is the day in which one listens to the voice of Elohim. Adam and Eve feared the voice of Elohim walking in the Garden because they had not listened to it, obeyed it. Today is the time of obedience to the commandments. Here are a few of the multiple verses in Deuteronomy that define "today" as the day of listening to and obeying the commandments, the voice of Elohim.

Can we clear up some Hebrew grammar?
“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and the LORD your God hands them over to you and you take them away captive...” (Dt 21:10)
Each Hebrew verb has its own preposition, which is not always the same as English. Translators often try to help by using the English preposition, which helps with basic understanding, but sometimes strips a great lesson. In Hebrew, a person doesn't battle AGAINST an enemy, but ON them.
When you go out to war [on] your enemies אֹיְבֶיךָ...
The Father doesn't want you to go out against your enemies. That implies push-pushback-push-pushback. Where does it end? Instead, He wants you to go out to war ON the enemy. Get on top. Subject him so that he doesn't rise again. Squash him completely. In spiritual terms, take your appetites, emotions, desires, and intellect, and subject them to the smackdown of Spirit and the Word of Truth. They will then become best friends instead of adversaries.
