Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 26– (Bamidbar - ”Footsteps Wherever You Go, A Shavuot Review of the Journey”) June 11, 2022

We’ve been looking at the significance of the feasts relative to the return of Yeshua and the gathering of the righteous. The following contexts help us to understand the role of the wilderness in Israel's gathering and return. Once the pieces are put together, it looks as though the final wilderness journey will begin in the nations of Israel's exile, not the geographic wilderness of the exodus from Egypt.

This banquet, which Yeshua alludes to in his teachings, is one in which the children of Abraham, or the righteous, sit down at the table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Garden of Eden upon entry for a banquet. The elders have a glimpse of this celestial meal when they go up.

• The Torah is from the Wilderness
• The Mishkan (Tabernacle) is from the Wilderness
• The Sanhedrin (Court) is from the Wilderness
• The Priesthood is from the Wilderness
• The Levitical divisions are from the Wilderness
• The Monarchy is from the Wilderness: “a kingdom of priests” and Mercy Seat
• The Goodly Gifts are from the Wilderness

• *Two crowns were bestowed to each individual Israelite by sixty myriads of ministering angels when Israel said, “We will do and we will hear,” and crowns were taken away upon the sin of the Golden Calf. Although this is tradition, not Torah, the writer of the letter to the Hebrews also alludes to it.
• Prophecy is from the Wilderness (including burning bush).

 

Alah, or going up, can mean both ascent and removal from. When ultimately Israel makes aliyah, she goes up spiritually to touch and inhabit the Garden and Jerusalem, removed from the death of the natural world. She can go up and in the cloud, the power of entropy suspended. When Israel is “removed from”, she dies in the wilderness because of unbelief, removed from the columns of smoke and cloud.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 25– (The Sheaves and Flocks of the Night Watches) June 4, 2022

In the last installment of our Footsteps of Messiah series, we examined Yeshua’s prophecies of return, particularly of the the second and third watches of the night. Delaying the Shema; that is, delaying the affirmation of the Torah Covenant until the second and third watches of the night, put the believer in jeopardy. At the end of days, delaying to fulfill the will of Adonai can be dangerous, for He describes it as being “lukewarm,” worthy only of being vomited out of the glorious Land of Israel, or in the language of the sages, “intermediates.” 

 

In this study, we will see suggestions that those who are lukewarm will simply be thrown in the Wrath of the Lamb with the wicked. Can they still repent? The gates of repentance are always open, but one has to wonder why every single warning to repent was ignored up to that point. Can this person really change? If so, repentance may save his soul, but the prophecies imply a punishment of the body with the wicked. We’ll leave those questions for the Dayan Emet, or True Judge.

 

For the righteous, this historical time may be the final affirmation of the Torah Covenant, a time for which we’ve all longed. Jeremiah and Ezekiel prophesy of a time when the Torah will be written on our hearts, and there will be no more struggle against the holy Words within us. This characterizes the promises of the New Covenant, which was inaugurated with Yeshua’s blood. 

 

What the believer soon realizes, though, is that his heart is frequently not interested in obeying the terms of the Covenant. There is still a struggle to obey the Word, and although we walk in the Ruach HaKodesh to renew His Word daily, we must admit that there is still part of that prophecy to be fulfilled. Although we fight the fight and run the race to perfection, the foot of the Mountain is still the finish line. It is there we will once again affirm the Covenant, promising “We will do and we will hear.”

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 24– (The Night Watches) May 28, 2022

In our last Footsteps of Messiah lesson, we looked at “the times of the Gentiles.” Although the measure of time is related to the reward, other measures of time are measures of significant events. There are “night watches” to which Yeshua refers concerning his return once the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled. In The Hours Not Even the Angels Know, we explained the Temple hours as calculated for Temple service. In that case, an hour is not sixty minutes, but a division of daylight hours of service. An hour can also be a month, or simply a significant time. It’s mind-bending, but studying the context is the best way to determine what kind of time of hour is the subject.

We are now living in the time of the Gentiles, which is a measured time. When King Yeshua returns instead of the nations ruling on earth we'll have Israel ruling the nations. The Kingdom of Heaven will be ushered in when the clay and iron feet from Nebuchanezzar's dream shatter and we see the end of that beast kingdoms.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 22 – (The Sharp Sickle Pt 3) May 14, 2022

Over the past few episodes we looked at correlations between the sharp sickles of Passover, specifically the First Fruits of the Barley, and the sharp sickles of Revelation Fourteen. Within that passage of Revelation, we read a very specific prophecy:

 

And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle. Then another angel, the one who has power over fire, came out from the altar; and he called with a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, because her grapes are ripe.” So the angel swung his sickle to the earth and gathered the clusters from the vine of the earth, and threw them into the great wine press of the wrath of God. And the wine press was trampled outside the city, and blood came out from the wine press, up to the horses’ bridles, for a distance of 1,600 stadia. (Re 14:17-20)

 

Yeshua harvests for Firstfruits of the Barley and Shavuot, the conclusion of human “wheat.” The angel of fire harvests those from the Vineyard as well as the vineyard of the whole earth to throw them into the winepress of Sukkot, when the decrees of Rosh HaShanah are executed upon the whole world. Sukkot is also known as “The Feast of the Nations.” One may enjoy the Feast of the Nations with Yeshua, or one may be part of a nation consumed by his wrath.

 

As we’ve seen, the prophecies of Scripture are fulfilled multiple times in history. Often there are textual markers, such as a doubled word or repetition within the text, or sometimes a chiasm. Blood up to the horses’ bridles is a very precise prophecy, and it leads the reader to a previous fulfillment. In the last stand of the Jews who followed Bar Kokhba, a false messiah, the Romans massacred the inhabitants of Beitar. According to the lone survivor of the massacre, the blood in Beitar ran up to the Roman horses’ noses. That leads to the Footsteps prophecy of Song of Songs, which prophesies the “turn” of Messiah on the mountains to meet with his Beloved Israel.

 

2:17 Until the cool of the day, when the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of Bether.

 

The mountains of Bether are an odd location because they are not mentioned anywhere else in Scripture, and even the Romans’ massacre there was far in the future when first prophesied in the Song. There must have been a singular event in history that would mark a step of Messiah’s turning to his Beloved.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 21 – (The Sharp Sickle Pt 2) May 7, 2022

We continue from last week's message ... “Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was one like a son of man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. And another angel came out of the temple, calling out with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, ‘Put in your sickle and reap, for the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is ripe.’ Then He who sat on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.” (Re 14:14-16) Yeshua is the one with the sickle in the Cloud. He sits, or in Hebrew, "dwells" there. The same Hebrew word, yashav, means to sit or dwell. Yeshua harvests his firstfruits with the message, “Reap,” and he hurries to reap the Father’s firstfruits. In this instance, he reaps the standing sheaves all the way to the end of the earth. He hurries to perform the mitzvah and doesn't let it age or sour.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 20 – (The Sharp Sickle Pt 1) April 30, 2022

Although the red beast Rome destroyed the daily sacrifice, it cannot destroy the sacrifices in the highest place, the Kingdom just above Mount Zion. Now let's investigate the image of the beast, its last kingdom Rome, and red Rome's daughters. This will help us to understand Revelation Fourteen, the one like the Son of Man with a sickle, and then the angel with the sharp sickle who follows him.

 

The “Footsteps” working text is found here in the Song of Songs:

 

• Until the cool of the day, when the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of Bether. (So 2:17)

 

“The mountains” in the corresponding midrashic thread allude to the powerful kingdoms that have subdued Israel, and specifically Rome, the largest and most powerful kingdom, whose “feet” are still mingled with the governments of the kingdoms of the earth. The mountains of Bether (Beitar) are an unusually specific reference to a place that had no historical significance until hundreds of years later when the Romans destroyed the last of the Jews there who followed the false messiah Bar Kokhba.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 19 – (Messiah’s Secret Snowstorm Pt 2) April 9, 2022 for April 16, 2022

Being hidden in the North finds another context in Psalm 48:

 

• Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion in the far north, the city of the great King. In its palaces, God has made Himself known as a stronghold.” (Ps 48:2-3)

 

The “far north” position of Mount Zion is also where palaces are located. It is thought that the Palace of Messiah is in the Garden of Eden, just above Mount Zion. Far north is perhaps not the best translation. The hindmost part of the north is better from other contexts. Dan’s banner camped in the north, faced out for protection, and the Tabernacle would have been located on the extreme north’s “backside.” Messiah is said to be “concealed in the north.” Think of the tribes facing out of the gates of Jerusalem to judge the nations.

 

“Palace” in Hebrew is armon אַרְמוֹן:

 

The two-letter shoresh ram רמ usually indicates something elevated and high, creating wordplay:

 

Rameses – high horse/ram sus

Aram – exalted, people of the palace

Armon – castle, palace,

Hermon – elevated mountain

 

Elohim has “made Himself known” [נוֹדַע] in Zion’s palaces, perhaps alluding to Yeshua’s need to “know” his disciples to admit them to the only true high place, the Kingdom of Heaven. Mount Hermon, pictured above, in some traditions is the location of the Transfiguration.

 

• Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James, and his brother John, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Peter responded and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If You want, I will make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him!” (Mt 17:1-5)

 

Perhaps the disciples realized they’d been shown one of the palaces of Zion, and for this reason thought it appropriate to erect three sukkot, connecting Hermon as a palace to the gathering into Sukkot of Glory when Messiah returned from the North, or hidden palace. He made himself “known” to them. 

 

Hermon is a location in Israel that dependably produces snow. Yeshua may have been showing them his "hiding place” in the coming exile, a place with storehouses of snow for the coming day of Judgment for the nations. Sukkot is also The Feast of the Nations. The nations will either feast WITH Yeshua in Sukkot of Glory, or they will BE the feast of unclean birds. Everyone will be KNOWN, either with residence in the Divine Sukkah, or with thorns and briers of Judgment.

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 18 – (Messiah’s Secret Snowstorm Pt 1) April 9, 2022

In last week's teaching, we examined the Passover setting of Gideon's calling and battle with the Midianites, Amalekites, and people of the East. When that battle was over, he returned to Sukkot and punished the 77 elders with thorns for not giving his little army bread and water to sustain them as they pursued the enemy:

Then he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and he disciplined (knew, yada) the men of Succoth with them. (Ju 8:16)

Gideon “knew” the 77 elders of Sukkot with thorns. Seventy-seven in Hebrew gematria spells az, or goat. The goats were separated from the sheep in Israel. Soon, the Footsteps of Messiah will be be heard on the mountains with Good News for those expecting him and punishment for those living as though he will not return. 

This week we explore where those mountains could possibly be and the concept “Messiah is hidden in the north.”

Dr Hollisa Alewine – Footsteps of Messiah Part 17 – (Passover Palace and Sukkot Thorns) April 2, 2022

Let’s review an important detail in Gideon’s battle, one that gives clarity to “knowing.” Knowing is positive, intimacy, growing into unity, and bearing fruit. Knowing is ALSO punishment with thorns of judgment for being apathetic, waiting for the sure thing.

Provoking are Hoshea’s prophecies of Ephraim’s apostasy with familiar verses:

 

Also the high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow on their altars; then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!” And to the hills, “Fall on us!” (Ho 10:8)

 

“Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, ‘FALL ON US,' AND TO THE HILLS, ‘COVER US.’” (Lk 23:30)

 

...and they said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the sight of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; (Re 6:16)

 

Briefly, the rabbinic commentary to Hoshea [The Twelve Prophets, Artscroll] points out Ephraim as the main culprit in the sin of the golden calves of the Northern Tribes. Jeroboam was from Ephraim, and he set up calves in Beth-El and Dan, changing the appointed times and places.

 

Strangely, it is these very two tribes missing from the list in Revelation Seven. Ephraim is replaced with ”Joseph,” and Dan omitted altogether (although the context says “every tribe” was there, don't worry!). This particular list in Revelation must be pointing to a mission with which the names of Ephraim and Dan cannot be affiliated, namely, preaching against idolatry and changing appointed times and the place of worship at those times. In this particular list, they are represented by their father and brothers.

 

While Hosea prophesied of Ephraim begging the mountains and hills to fall on them, the prophecy telescopes all the way to Revelation and worldwide judgment. Ephraim was a tribe of Israel, yet they were not above being disciplined by their Father who loved them very much. When they still refused to repent, they begged mountains to fall on them. Being apathetic about repentance is risky. The story of Gideon is an excellent example of the consequences of apathy during the time when the Anointed One of War goes forth.

 

The story of Gideon begins in Judges 6:1 when the Israelites fell into idolatry after Deborah’s forty-reign as judge. The Midianites consumed and destroyed everything the Israelites produced, livestock or crop, for seven years to starve them out. This may soon be driven home to our generation.
